Introducing the Next Generation in Home Standby Technology

Generac is phasing out the Guardian series of home standby generators and phasing in a brand new line-up of Next-Gen units.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Key Differences:

  • New enclosure design: sloped roof reduces water, dirt, ice buildup and prevents staining

  • Electronic Fuel & Ignition Control (EFIC): improved cold start performance, lower fuel consumption, and lower emissions

  • Color change: now in Metro Grey

  • Cellular connectivity is now standard on every unit

  • New engine design with maintenance-free hydraulic lifters

  • Oil Level Monitoring via the Mobile Link app

  • Rear Air Intake reduces snow, ice, and rain intrusion

  • Updated Status LEDs allow you to control brightness levels

  • New Controller with Advanced Remote Diagnostics

  • New Accessories: battery, battery heater, GENPAD, generator cart, and HVAC Energy Manager (replaces SACM)

  • No display for the controller: use a phone or tablet with the new Field Pro app to interface with the controller via Bluetooth

  • Easy Activation: Register the generator using the Field Pro app – no activation codes needed.

RESIDENTIAL TRANSFER SWITCH REDESIGN

The RXS series residential Automatic Transfer Switch is being phased out and replaced with a redesigned version of the same switch. These new switches are backwards compatible with existing Guardian generators as well as the new Next-Gen models.

NEW ATS FEATURES:

  • New Metro-Gray enclosure to match the Next-Gen generators.

  • Pass-through lugs now standard.

  • Fuse Control Module now standard on 150A and 200A switches (replaces SACM board on previous models)

  • Installer Fast-Mount now standard.

Next-Gen FAQ

    • The controller on the next-gen models does not have a built-in display.

    • Installers must use a smart phone or tablet loaded with the Field Pro app to interface with the controller.

    • The Field Pro app automates the activation process. No more 1-800 numbers or activation codes

    • Smart Troubleshooting: access live system data and run tests onsite to quickly resolve common issues

  • Once you have downloaded the Field Pro app to your mobile device, follow these steps to set up your account:

    • Tap the Field Pro app icon to launch the app.

    • If you have a G360 or PowerPlay account, use your email and password to sign in.

    • If you have PWRfleet credentials, tap Continue with PWRfleet login and enter your login info.

    • If you do not have one of the account types above, tap “Don't have an account? Sign up to create a Field Pro account.”

    • This will provide access to Field Pro only, not to systems like G360 or PowerPlay.

    • Note: The email address used for signup cannot be changed later. Ensure the email is entered correctly and is accessible by the user.

    • Follow prompts to complete the registration.

    • Before starting the activation process, make sure that you have downloaded the Field Pro app. If you do not have an account set up, you’ll need to create one the first time you launch the app.

    • Every next-gen standby generator comes with a cellular radio module that must be installed prior to activation.

    • Once that’s done, you’ll use the Field Pro app to connect your smartphone or tablet to the generator’s controller.

    • From there, the app will guide you through the process of configuring and activating the generator.

  • Generac’s new HVAC Energy Manager can be added during installation to manage you customer’s HVAC systems.

  • The Generac Load Manager is the latest version of what was previously called the Smart Management Module (SMM).

These modules can used to prioritize loads and lock out unnecessary loads during an outage.

They are available in 50A and 100A versions, and are compatible with existing Guardian series generators as well as the next-gen models.

    • Next-Gen generators require a 12V AGM Powersport battery, battery group BTX20L, 310CCA minimum (sold separately)

    • You can purchase these from any auto-parts store or battery supplier. We also stock them in our Rochester, NY warehouse for local customers.

    • Cold Weather Accessories: The Next-Gen models use a new type of battery warmer. (Model 7211).

The guardian series battery warmer will not work with next-gen units.

The oil warmer hasn’t changed (Model #7102) and can be used on both Guardian and Next-Gen units.

    • Transport Cart: The Next-Gen units use a new type of transport cart. The old transport cart will not work with the new Next-Gen units.

Next-Gen transport carts are available now for purchase.

    • GenPads: The Next-Gen units are not compatible with the original GenPad.

Next-Gen versions of both the concrete (cheaper but heavier) and composite (more expensive but much lighter) GenPad are available now for purchase.

These new GenPads are backwards compatible, so you can still use them with the old Guardian series generators.
